The Manjaro development team, through Philip Müller, had the pleasure of announcing the immediate availability for download and testing of Manjaro KDE 0.9.0 Pre4 computer operating system based on the Linux kernel 3.19, KDE Plasma 5.2.1, as well as the latest KDE Applications 14.12.3. This release migrates to an all-new and complete hardware-accelerated graphics stack based on OpenGL(ES).

This is the fourth development version towards Manjaro KDE 0.9.0, due for release sometime in the coming months. It introduces a great number of features, among which we can mention new tools to manage Bluetooth devices (distributed as part of the BlueDevil package), including keyboard and mouse peripherals, support for GTK applications, and lots of performance and stability improvements to the KDE Plasma’s window manager, KWin.

“Plasma is built using Qt 5 and Frameworks 5. Plasma 5.2.1 introduces a new major version of KDE’s workspace offering. The Manjaro Art Team has forked the new KDE Breeze set and named it Maia to follow in line with the rest of our visually appealing desktops, this artwork concept introduces cleaner visuals and improved readability. We worked also hard to improve our graphical installer Calamares,” was stated in the release announcement.

Simple Desktop Display Manager (SDDM) is now used as the default login manager

The SDDM (Simple Desktop Display Manager) display manager has been implemented in this fourth development release of the upcoming Manjaro Linux KDE 0.9.0 operating system as the default login screen. In addition, a new module for Manjaro’s System Settings tool has been added to allow users to configure the theme of SDDM. Also, the Manjaro tools received a lot of attention in this release.

The Calamar built-in graphical installer tool has been updated as well, the KSSHAskPass module has been added to allow users to access computers with SSH keys that have passwords, KScreen has been introduced as a System Settings module and lets users create multi monitor configurations, and Octopi received several improvements.
