A few other desktop environments have been updated as well

Manjaro developers have released a new update pack for Manjaro 0.8.12 and this time it's a very big one. The makers of this distro focused more on the various desktop environments that are supported and they have also upgraded some of the other components.

The rate of releases for the Manjaro update packs is insane, but the developers are making some incredible progress. They could have pushed these kinds of updates into the upcoming 0.9.0 branch, but they've made some effort to make it compatible with the current stable version. If you already have Manjaro installed, you don't really need to bother yourself with any kind of extra steps. Just upgrade your system and everything will fall into place.

Manjaro is based on Arch Linux, but it's not following the same rolling release model. The devs push a major new release from time to time and they complement it with this kind of update pack. Interestingly enough, the update packs can bring new features, desktop environment, and make really big changes, which is not something done usually in the Linux world.

Third update pack for Manjaro 0.8.12 is a doozy

One of the biggest surprises in the Manjaro release is the addition of Xfce 4.12, or at least of the packages that have been released until now. The final version of the desktop environment hasn't been available just yet, but most of the packages have been released for some time now.

"Xfce 4.12 is around the corner. We have it already. We got the latest sources and squeezed them in our repositories. We now official depreciating manjaroiso. From now on our new tool-set manjaro-tools takes over and replaces also devtools," reads the official announcement.

The Octopi and Pamac package managers have been updated as well, the BSD Lumia desktop 0.8.2 has been implemented, Budgie-Desktop now sits at version 8.1, and many of the kernels in the repository have been upgraded again.

You can download Manjaro 0.8.12 right now from Softpedia and upgrade your system through the regular channels.
