A new Update Pack has been released for Manjaro 0.8.11

Manjaro 0.8.11 is a Linux distribution based on Arch Linux, which is also 100% compatible with the repositories of the base system. It's been out for a short time, but developers have already pushed a second major update for it.

It took developers a lot of time to get Manjaro 0.8.11 out the door and it looks like there are still a large number of issues and other problems to be fixed. The good news is that devs are very much aware that they need to fix things, so they are working very hard for this major update. The previous is only one week old, but this latest upgrade seems to bring a lot of interesting stuff.

Developers have already started to work on the next iteration of Manjaro, 0.9, but if the 0.8.10 branch is any indication, then we will likely get a dozen more update packs. It's nothing certain, but they do seem to arrive at much smaller intervals.

Arch Linux, the base on Manjaro Linux, is a rolling release distro, but this operating system uses a different policy, hence the large number of update packs. It's also common for the developer to bring new features and huge changes to the system in the cycle of the same branch.

"With this update we fixed some issues with Bluedevil and devices powered-off by default. Also we updated some of our kernels (3.10.62, 3.12.35, 3.14.26, 3.17.6) and introduce the 3.18 series. Along with usual upstream fixes and enhancements, all these kernels include BFQ v7r6, which improves boot time while retaining it’s usual responsiveness. More info here."

"On the driver side we updated nvidia-340xx packages. Also there is a new AMD Catalyst driver out there, Beside fixes for our graphical package managers, we ship regular Arch-Upstream updates. This includes updates to Mesa, LibreOffice, Qt5, Python2, Xorg-Server and much more. This update also includes a number of 'fast-tracked' security fixes," say the developers in the announcement.

Manjaro now has support for these Linux kernels: 3.10.61, 3.12.35, 3.13.11.12 (maintained by Canonical), 3.14.26, Linux kernel 3.16.7.2, Linux kernel 3.17.6, and Linux kernel 3.18.0. This last is actually the latest stable one available.

If you already have the system installed and you perform regular updates, then you don't really have to do anything extra. You can download Manjaro 0.8.11 right now from Softpedia and upgrade the distro with the regular updater tool.
