We Earth dwellers have been searching for signs of alien life for decades. Unfortunately, we've until now come up empty handed, and scientists say it will be a while before we finally find extraterrestrial organisms.

According to one self-proclaimed researcher by the name Scott C. Waring, however, there really is no need for us to go on bending over backwards trying to find signs of alien lifeforms be it in our Solar System or well beyond it.

Aliens are real and they found us decades ago. What's more, we even have a picture showing one of their high-tech spacecrafts hovering close to our good old planet, UFOs aficionado Scott C. Waring goes on to argue.

The controversial photo said to show an UFO

The picture Scott C. Waring says counts as proof that aliens are very much real and closely watching us was taken on December 19, 1960, during NASA's Mercury Mission, which started in 1958 and ended five years later, in 1963.

The photo in question, available below, was produced by the agency's unmanned Mercury-Redstone 1A probe. It shows part of our planet as observed from space and an odd-looking white spot that Scott C. Waring claims is an UFO.

“It's actually the Earth in the background and the UFO is in space observing the Mercury capsule,” said the aliens enthusiast, as cited by DM. “Why wouldn't aliens be interested in watching a historical moment in human history?” he added.

Not that this even needs mentioning, but actual scientists and down-to-earth folks aren't buying Scott C. Waring's theory that this one image snapped by NASA's Mercury-Redstone 1A probe on December 19, 1960 shows an UFO.

NASA's Mercury mission was a roaring success

With or without aliens stalking its spacecraft, the fact of the matter is that NASA's Mercury mission was one for the books and a roaring success. Thus, this mission was the US' first to launch astronauts into space.

As part of this ambitious project, daredevil John Glenn became the first person ever to orbit the Earth. This happened in February 1962. Prior to this achievement, in May 1961, astronomer Alan Shepherd became the first US astronaut to travel to space and back.
