Towards the beginning of this year's November, the Discovery Channel proudly announced that, come December 7, it would air a special showing a full-grown man allowing himself to be eaten alive by a massive anaconda.

It is now December 8, and by the looks of it, the much-awaited and much-acclaimed Discovery Channel special Eaten Alive turned out to be one big disappointment. Simply put, nobody got eaten alive by an anaconda.

Instead, plenty of folks who actually took the time to clear their schedule just so that they could watch an anaconda swallow a man whole and then regurgitate him were eaten at by frustration and dissatisfaction.

Definitely not the special the Discovery Channel promised us

To recap, the Discovery Channel told us that, this December 7, we would get to see naturalist and wildlife filmmaker Paul Rosolie being eaten alive and then regurgitated by an massive anaconda in the Peruvian rainforest.

Mind you, Paul Rosolie took care of backing up this claim. In fact, he even went as far as to sit for an interview and explain how, while performing this stunt, he was concerned not about his safety but about not harming the snake.

The thing is that, as it turns out, this guy didn't really enter any beast's belly, be it an anaconda or the ferocious Kraken himself. What he actually did was let a snake give him a hug and have a taste of his head, and then ask for help.

Thus, DM tells us that, having found a freakishly big female anaconda in the Peruvian rainforest, the naturalist and wildlife filmmaker put on a custom-made suit, covered himself in pig blood and approached the creature on all fours.

When the snake began constricting him and got to work trying to fit its body into its mouth, Paul Rosolie had the crew who accompanied him on this mission rescue him. The anaconda only got to chew on part of the man's head.

It is understood that, before being saved, the man was constricted by the snake for about an hour. During this time, his heartbeat turned hectic and one of his arms was nearly crushed. Besides, Paul Rosolie says that, when the anaconda actually started eating him, he pretty much blacked out.

Naturally, people didn't appreciate the manipulation

Following the release of this special, people were quite upset both with the Discovery Channel and Paul Rosolie. Truth be told, it really isn't very difficult to figure out why. In a nutshell, Eaten Alive utterly and completely failed to live up to expectations.

“I hope Paul is happy despite letting an entire nation down. I can't believe he can show his face on tv right now. What a wuss #EatenAlive,” Twitter user Connor McCarthy from Pennsylvania said in a message on the social networking site.

“#EatenAlive complete waste of my time you didn't even get eaten alive you cant call a show eaten alive and not get eaten by your anaconda!” added Twitter user Stacey Taylor, from Ontario, Canada.

Then again, the fact of the matter is that naturalist and wildlife filmmaker Paul Rosolie got way closer to an anaconda than any of us would ever hope to be. Admittedly, the special did not actually show him being eaten alive by an anaconda. It did, however, set a new standard for reality TV.

To see the snake curl itself around Paul Rosolie, getting ready to eat him, check out the video below. Fair warning though, this footage is not for the faint of heart, so viewer discretion is recommended.
