If you’re following developments in the world of graphic cards, you might be aware that NVIDIA has recently rolled out the GeForce GTX 980M and 970M GPUs, both based on Maxwell architecture.

And you might remember that we have already talked about a few future products which will be the first to take advantage of the new cards, including the MSI GS60 Ghost Pro Gold Edition, ASUS ROG G751 and a couple of Clevo notebooks.

Well, these laptops have been popping up in obscure retail locations, but none of them has officially been announced yet.

MAINGEAR is first to launch laptops with NVIDIA's latest

So MAINGEAR becomes the first company to officially announce the NOMAD 17 laptop line which takes advantage of either NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M and 980M series graphics cards.

The NOMAD 17 series is a high-end lineup designed to provide gaming on the go for the most demanding users out there.

The new laptops offer a full aluminum chassis with the bold color choice like bright yellow, but there are other five more options to pick from. Each laptop has reportedly been hand-painted and offers either the matte or glossy display finish.

MAINGEAR has swapped out the GTX 680M GPU that was available with the previous generation and has slipped in the latest standard which, according to the producing company, doubles things in the performance department.

The NOMAD 17 still relies on Haswell

In the CPU department, the gaming laptop still relies on the 4th gen Intel i7-4980HQ mobile processor, since high-end Broadwell chips are still not yet in production. The internal architecture takes advantage of 4 cores and 8 threads and can go as far as 4.0GHz clock speed in Turbo Boost.

The NOMAD 17 comes with a 17.3-inch anti-reflective display which boasts full HD resolution.

Everything onboard is fitted with up to 32GB of speedy DDR3-1600MHz memory and MAINGEAR throws in a bunch of solutions for storage (including different hard drive options plus support for blazing fast RAID 0 and M.2 SSD).

The spec list is completed by a Killer E2200 Game Networking adapter, USB 3.0 and 2.0, eSATA Bluetooth, Ethernet, 802.11ac wireless, HDMI and mDP out port.

The laptop takes advantage of a fully backlit keyboard, multi-touch trackpad with gesture and scrolling support, dual speakers and built-in subwoofer. Last but not least, we’ll mention customers can opt for either Windows 8.1 Pro or Home.

So at this point you might be wondering how much a laptop taking advantage of NVIDIA’s latest Maxwell-based GPU is going to cost you. Well, the answer is quite a lot, but you saw it coming, didn't you?

The starting price of the base model (with the GTX 970M) is set for $2,099 / €1,664, so you better start saving up.
