It would be nice to easily install Ubuntu on Nexus 6 devices

MultiROM Manager is a mobile application for Android systems that allows users to install another ROM on their phone without deleting the operating system. Now the developer is also working to get the application ready for Nexus 6 devices.

Normally, we won't bother to check up on Android apps as there are plenty of Linux fish in the sea, but the MultiROM Manager is a special app. It allows users to easily install the Ubuntu Touch OS onto Nexus 4 devices with just a few clicks. To be fair, it's not difficult to install Ubuntu Touch from scratch, but it's a little bit more complicated and you will have to delete Android.

There is also a small caveat that needs to be mentioned. Users will need to have root access on their phones, but that's not all that hard to do. After you start the app, you upgrade and install a couple of packages (the kernel and the recovery software, TWRP in this case), choose your Ubuntu channel, and just hit install. It takes less than 10 minutes and it's pain free, especially if you want to still have Android after you're done.

MultiROM Manager is coming to Nexus 6

The developer of MultiROM Manager is working to make the application available on Nexus 6 and it's a lot of work. There is no timeframe and that's fine, but it would be interesting to also have Ubuntu in place. As it stands right now, it's possible to install Ubuntu only on Nexus 4 devices. The port for Nexus 5 is lagging a little behind and it's not official.

"Got my Nexus 6 today and I'm currently working on bringing MultiROM to it - it is still pretty early and I won't give you an ETA, although as you can see, UI is already running and multirom can now also handle encryption. While that was a lot of work (especially the encryption, even though it is based on TWRPs - thanks!), the most important part, the kexec-hardboot patch, is not yet done," wrote the developer of MultiROM Manager.

Canonical has been using the Nexus 4 as a development platform for more than two years, and there is no sign that they intend to change that any time soon, but it would be nice to have MultiROM Manager on Nexus 6 and an official port.
