Acer’s new Windows Phone will get the latest treatment

This summer, Acer introduced the Liquid M220 smartphone, which runs on the Windows Phone platform. Acer had dabbed into Windows territory before, but it took the company a while to return to Microsoft’s platform.

The Liquid M220 doesn’t offer much in terms of hardware, but it still bundles decent enough specs. The device ships out with the Windows Phone 8.1 operating system right out of the box, and back when it launched, it was pretty unclear whether the phone would get the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2.

But now that Microsoft has rolled out Windows 10 into the world and Acer has unveiled a new lineup of laptops coming pre-installed with the new operating system, we also get some info about the smartphone.

According to the device maker, the Liquid M220 handset will “be available with Windows 10 Mobile” later this fall (expected to drop in November as per the latest rumors). It’s not exactly clear whether Acer will push out a new version of the phone or an OTA update will be issued.

The Liquid M220 arrives with a 4-inch capacitive touchscreen that supports 480 x 800 pixel resolution. It is packed with a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor with 1GB of RAM. There’s a 5MP camera on the back plus a secondary 2MP camera in front for video calls.
