Samsung’s greatest phablet is learning a few new tricks

With today being the day when the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge launch globally, Samsung probably didn't want to make a big deal out of the fact that it is also rolling out an update for the Galaxy Note 4.

It’s not a huge update, but we are seeing a bunch of new features and the usual bug fixes arrive with the OTA delivery (as reported by Sam Mobile).

First up, the Contact app doesn't seem to crash anymore, forcibly shutting down the function, which is certainly a relief. Then, there’s a new feature called the Slide View Panel which brings up two capacitive buttons - Back and Recent Apps - alongside the Home button on the screen.

Another piece of good news is that the Mute feature is now available for your pleasure. The update also changes the notification selection mode from All/Priority Only/No notifications to a new Do Not Disturb mode.

This is a minor update, so don’t expect anything big like Android 5.1 here. Speaking of which, a recent report claims that Samsung hasn't started working on Android 5.1 yet for any of its phones, so it might take a while before we see the update out and about.

On the other hand, the recently unearthed Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 seem to be the company’s first phones to don the new Android build.
