One day after introducing the Lumia 640 and 640 XL in India, Microsoft announced the Windows Phones are now available for purchase in the UK.

Both smartphones can be had from major carrier across the country, but they are also available through authorized retailers. Windows Phone fans can purchase the Lumia 640 for £100 outright, while the Lumia 640 XL costs £220.

According to Microsoft, only the Lumia 640 is now on sale in the UK, while the Lumia 640 XL is supposed to hit shelves in the first week of May.

Both smartphones come with Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2, which means they will be packed with slightly more features than any other previous Lumia smartphone.

The Lumia 640 sports a 5-inch HD (720p) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating, but the Lumia 640 XL has a much larger 5.7-inch HD (720p) display. Both smartphones are packed with similar 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processors and 1GB of RAM.

They also feature 8GB of internal memory and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 128GB). However, while the Lumia 640 packs a 2,500 mAh battery, its bigger brother is powered by a much better 3,000 mAh battery.
