Opera has just announced that it has launched a new mobile browser for Android devices. The eighth installment of Opera Mini is now available for download via Google Play Store.

Apart from the version bump, Opera Mini 8 brings lots of new features and under-the-hood improvements which are supposed to turn the application into a fast and reliable mobile browser.

Opera Mini 8 now has a native look and feel especially for Android devices. The application features swipe support, which means users will be able to swipe bookmarks to delete, swipe downloads to abort, or swipe tabs to close.

The latest version of the Android browser has high DPI support and allows users to group favorites into folders by dragging. The omnibar has been combined, so users can type URLs and get suggestions when typing.

There's also a new data counter that shows users their daily progress on saving, as well as a new visual tab gallery. Developers also added private tabs and revamped the bookmark manager, which now allows users to save, sync and share them.

The search function can now be enabled by a swipe up or long press. Last but not least, Opera Software confirmed they merged the start page with speed dial and discover.

If you don't have the application installed yet, you can now download Opera Mini 8 for Android for free via the Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 2.3 and up.
