OnePlus One runs a custom version of Android out of the box

OnePlus One is a handset running CyanogenMod 11S, which was most readily adopted by developers around the globe.

So it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that the handset was spotted running Jolla’s own Sailfish OS.

The photograph showing that the porting was achieved has been shared by Jolla’s own Martin Brook on Twitter.

Sailfish OS is currently running on devices offered by the Finnish company, but in the near future, we might end up seeing more manufacturers put this OS on their devices, because Jolla is now allowing licensing.

Porting Sailfish on top of the OnePlus One was possible due to Sailfish OS’s Hardware Adaption Kit. The same process was used in the case of the Nexus 4, 5 and 7, and the Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4 in order to get Sailfish to work on them too.

So the OnePlus One is just the latest addition of Sailfish-friendly devices. We do expect to see more in the near future, however.

As for OnePlus, the Chinese device maker is working towards its first custom ROM, which the company has dubbed Oxygen OS and for the development of which it has employed the help of ex-Paranoid Android members.
