HTC’s latest flagship, the One M9, arrives on the market with the company’s own, updated and improved Sense 7 UI. So since its launch, we have been wondering when older HTC phones will also get the updated UI treatment.

This week, HTC UK has revealed that the previous One M8 flagship is poised to get the Android 5.1 update, complete with Sense 7 UI starting in August this year.

The company didn’t share any other details about the new update, but we do know that Android 5.1 is supposed to bring a number of security fixes, performance enhancements, HD voice support, and such.

On top of that, HTC Sense 7 adds a new theme app, new and shiny home-screen widget, and an improved version of BlinkFeed.

While Google unleashed Android 5.1 a few weeks ago, most devices out there are yet to receive the latest build.

For the time being, only Nexus and Google Play devices have been offered the treatment. And a few hours ago, LG launched the first smartphone to come out with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box.

Motorola has already initiated soak tests for its first and second-generation Moto X handsets, and if they go well, the device maker will roll out the update globally. Last but not least, we also told you that Samsung was prepping the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for its current flagship, the Galaxy S6.
