The smartphone can't be purchased anymore

Bad news for those who still wanted to grab the LG Nexus 5, as Google has just removed it from Play Store. While the smartphone might still be available at other carriers or retailers, Google was offering a very good deal on the Nexus 5.

This isn't really surprising as Nexus 5 has been launched back in 2013 and the company probably wants to focus on the new Motorola Nexus 6, its latest flagship smartphone.

LG Nexus 5 will continue to receive important Android updates, but not for a long time. The search giant plans to offer major updates for its Nexus devices for around 18 months, after which customers will have to upgrade to a newer device if they want to continue to receive software updates.

The production of the Nexus 5 probably stopped a few months ago, since Google barely manages to fulfill the Motorola Nexus 6 demands through its Play store.

On top of that, Google is now concentrating on the next Nexus smartphone, which is said to be manufactured by Huawei. Details on the Nexus 7 are limited for now, but word is Google plans to include USB Type-C to its next flagship smartphone.

Bottom line, Google did the right move by removing the Nexus 5 from its Play Store, though a short announcement prior this would have been more appropriate for customers.
