Application error says user limit has been reached

This weekend, Apple pulled one of the most popular Twitter clients from the App Store as the software seemingly conflicted with Twitter’s rules regarding user tokens. Tweetbot is currently unavailable for download to Mac users, but the problem should be rectified soon.

Tapbots, the developer of Tweetbot, reveals on Twitter that the company is aware of some ongoing issues and is working to address them: “We are aware of Tweetbot for Mac authentication issues. We have contacted Twitter and are waiting for a response. Thanks for your patience.” The tweet doesn’t say anything about the Mac client getting pulled.

Looking to keep third-party solutions at a safe distance, Twitter instated a token system two years ago, preventing apps like Tweetbot from amassing too many accounts. Developers of such third-party apps who wanted to get on Twitter’s good side were instructed to contact the mother ship and see if they qualify for an exception.

Unfortunately, Tweetbot for Mac isn’t available for download outside the Mac App Store, so you’ll have to wait until the situation gets cleared up. The iOS version, however, is alive and kicking. You can get the mobile version for $4.99 from the iOS App Store. We’ll keep you in the loop regarding Tapbots’ next move.
