Apple seeds new public beta to select customers

Registrants to the public OS X beta program are being greeted by a new seed this weekend. Separate from the developer branch, this build carries less increments in the build number, but reportedly includes the same focus areas as the newest developer beta.

OS X 10.10.2 “12C81h” arrives more than a week after registered developers were offered build 14C81f, the third beta in this development cycle adding new focus areas. The same core components in need of testing are listed in the public beta, namely Wi-Fi, Mail, and VoiceOver.

Yosemite is known to be suffering from wireless connectivity issues, and our own testing confirmed not only these problems, but also some affecting Mail. It’s not clear what the problems with VoiceOver are, but the final release will undoubtedly confirm the fixes in the official changelog.

The public beta is being offered via the Mac App Store as a regular update for those who already have a beta running on their system.

The beta is currently being offered to those who participated in the OS X Beta Program before OS X Yosemite was released. If that’s you, then you are automatically enrolled to receive beta software updates. If you are new to the program or want to enroll a new Mac, download the Beta Access Utility from https://appleseed.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/redemption and make sure you have one of the following configurations:

iMac (Mid-2007 or newer) MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) Xserve (Early 2009)
