Unlike Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer, Barack Obama was mesmerized at the sight of the original iPhone. When Steve Jobs personally demoed the device to him, the President was left in awe.

Barack Obama’s Chief Campaign Advisor David Axelrod has written this book called "Believer." According to the synopsis, it’s about politics, corruption, communities and American history in general. It’s probably well worth a read, and for Apple fan’s in particular, there’s a delightful paragraph about Obama’s first reaction to the original iPhone.

“In 2007, Obama got a sneak peek at the iPhone during a private meeting with Apple’s Steve Jobs. ‘If it were legal, I would buy a boatload of Apple stock. This thing is going to be really big,’ Obama said after the meeting.”

Indeed Apple’s business has been on the rise ever since, and continues to perform beautifully as far as everyone is concerned, including investors. Apple is currently trading at roughly $120 (€105) a share today, or about ten times more than it did when Steve Jobs ceremoniously unveiled the world’s first true smartphone.

For those who didn’t catch this truly historic moment, the keynote address is embedded below for your viewing pleasure. Eight years later, many vendors still sell millions of smartphones inferior even to the original iPhone in terms of user experience and performance.
