Apple has cast the iPad in a series of very touching ads lately. The newest such effort shows how a bunch of students at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts relied solely on iPads to make entire movies in a matter of days.

Using a typical piano score, the ad starts with a blackboard on which a teacher (supposedly) wrote “Make a film with iPad. Due this Monday.” Apparently that assignment was a real one for the youngsters studying art at the aforementioned L.A. school.

The one-minute clip, narrated by the iconic Martin Scorsese, presents the steps these kids went through to stitch together interesting moments for their individual projects. A transcript of Scorsese’s narrative can be found below.

As part of the “Start Something New” campaign, the commercial promotes the tablet’s versatility for artistic purposes, thanks mainly to the plurality of creative apps available on iTunes.

Despite being tremendously inspirational and brilliantly presented, Apple’s latest have started to lose their humor in recent years. So much so that there’s virtually no fun without an equal dose of melancholy, sadness even.

Personally, I miss the days when Apple would engage in “fights” with the competition, boasting its products’ qualities over the rivals’ weaknesses. After all, a little fun never hurt anyone.
