14 DAY TRIAL // Google has updated its social Hangouts app for iPhone and iPad, bringing some of the oomph that Android users have been enjoying for a while now, as well as location sharing with smart suggestions.
Released worldwide for iOS 7 and iOS 8 customers, Google Hangouts 2.5.0 delivers new stickers, status messages for people to know your mood and what you're up to, the ability to find friends and family members via phone number, SMS and Voicemail from your Google Voice account, and improvements to the video call features.
Most importantly, the new version lets you share your location with a single tap when friends ask where you are. You can also get smart sharing suggestions if you don’t know what to type. For this to work, you need to have Location Services switched to On (in Settings > Privacy).
With Hangouts you can have free group video calls with up to 10 friends at once, call any phone number in the world, and call for free in the Hangouts network. The app itself is localized in dozens of different languages, and compatibility doesn’t stop at the iPhone – you can also use it on iPads and iPod touch players.
