Photographers working with Aperture and iPhoto on a Mac running OS X Yosemite have a new update to download and install courtesy of the company headquartered at 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, California.

“Digital camera RAW formats retain more image information than JPEGs and can produce better results when used with imaging applications such as Aperture and iPhoto,” says Apple. “OS X Yosemite provides system-level support for digital camera RAW formats from the following cameras.”

The Mac maker today offers a standard Digital Camera RAW Compatibility update numbered 6.0.2 and packing software that renders the two photography apps compatible with new camera models.

Support document DL1780 confirms that Apple’s new Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 6.02 updates Aperture 3 and iPhoto 11 with RAW image support for Canon PowerShot G7 X, Canon PowerShot SX60 HS, Fujifilm X100T, Nikon 1 J4, Olympus PEN Lite E-PL7, Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GM5, Sony Alpha ILCE-5100.

As usual, the Cupertino giant directs customers to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6476 for more information on supported RAW formats. Weighing in at 7.5 MB, the update asks for OS X 10.10 Yosemite as the minimum system requirement, meaning this particular update is not for Mavericks or older versions of the OS.
